[ID: 188] General composition of soil microbial communities in relation to higher productivity of Scots pine vs. Norway spruce stands

PI: Robert Blasko

The aim of the study is to explore the general composition of soil microbial communities and relate it to the higher productivity of the Scots pine stands at four different sites in Sweden. We analyzed soil samples for PLFA and ergosterol biomarkers and estimated fine-root biomass. In addition, we estimated ergosterol concentration in the fine roots.

[ID: 187] Impacts of intensive N fertilization on soil microbial communities

PI: Robert Blasko

The aim of this study is to estimate the impacts of intensive nutrient fertilization (NPK) on soil microbial communities at five experiments (1523-1527) along a latitudinal and productivity gradient in Sweden.

[ID: 186] Tree species identity and mixing effects on soil microbial communities

PI: Robert Blasko

The aim of this study is to explore the tree species identity and mixing effects on general composition of the soil microbial communities. We sampled soil and fine roots in 2017 and analyzed PLFA bio markers and ergosterol in soil samples, as well as ergosterol in tree fine roots in Norway spruce, Scots pine, and mixed stands of these two species at Främlingshem to describe the soil microbial communities. We aim to explore, whether the different productivity of these stands can be related to the differences in soil microbial communities. Nov 2017: Soil sampling for fine-root biomass, PLFA and ergosterol (in soil and in fine roots) analyses.

[ID: 107] Comparison of ecosystem C and N stocks in Norway spruce vs. Scots pine stands throughout Sweden

PI: Robert Blasko

We are evaluating the performance of Norway spruce vs. Scots pine stands at the sites equally suitable for both species in the experiments at Kulbäcksliden 1028-1029, Flakaträsk 2458, Övra 1061, and Björkheden 1062. The aim is to evaluate how the different species productivity affects C and N stocks of he ecosystem and some of the important C fluxes; soil CO2 efflux and litterfall.

[ID: 105] Effects of intensive N fertilization on ecosystem C and N stocks, soil CO2 efflux, and litterfall

PI: Robert Blasko

We use intensive nutrient enrichment experiments 1523-1527 along a latitudinal gradient in Sweden to evaluate the effects of intensive nutrient (NPK) fertilization (100 kg N ha-1 year-1) on the ecosystem C and N stocks, soil CO2 efflux, and litterfall C inputs.
