[ID: 133] Tracking forest carbon-nitrogen pathways at nano-scale: Quantification of microbial assimilation of tree photosynthates and soil nitrogen by high-throughput stable isotopic analysis of RNA-arrays

PI: Mona Högberg

Linking microbes identity to their function in the field through stable isotopic probing of tree photosynthate (tracer: 13CO2) and soil nitrogen (tracer: 15NO3). Treatments: tree stem girdling, nitrogen fertilisation.

[ID: 103] Interactive effects on forest carbon cycling between nitrogen fertilization and precipitation

PI: Hyungwoo Lim

We are investigating the interactive effect between fertilization and water availability on biomass production, and examining factors constraining efficiencies with which assimilated carbon partitions into wood biomass.

[ID: 80] Profiling of the phloem isotopic composition along tree height

PI: John Marshall

Theoretically, the carbon isotopic signature of the phloem content at breast height should represent the isotopic discrimination of photosynthesis of the crown, and provide a means to estimate crown mesophyll conductance. We want to investigate how well this theory holds true in reality.
